State fair attendance rises 10 percent
SACRAMENTO, CA – Promotions, food discounts and a new time apparently proved successful for the 157th California State Fair as organizers saw a 10 percent increase in the number of visitors compared to 2009.
The fair was held from mid -July to Aug. 1 instead of its usual mid-August through Labor Day time slot. During Tuesdays, Kids Day at the fair when admission was free, organizers said more than 50,000 kids passed through the turnstiles, a 275 percent increase.
Nearly 100 food vendors discounted prices 25 percent, which resulted in “booming” food sales, said fair representatives.
What proved to be especially popular was the fair season pass, good for the duration of the 19-day fair and the Raging Waters attraction. Fair officials said pass sales were up nearly 400 percent compared to last year.
Total fair attendance was 741,189.
